STRINGODYNE
Stringodyne is the second in the MLM 'Lite' series.
We were having some fun fooling around on the Dotcom recently and came up with some rather nice analogue string patches. But being monophonic, we lobbed them into Kontakt to see how they sounded as chords ... and they sounded rather nice. So we did some more and they stacked up rather well. Some went via the Q127 Fixed Filter Bank, others via the Suit&Tie Guy VCS3 filter and others via the Q150 Transistor Ladder (Moog) filter.
There are PWMs, sawtooths and ramps in there with some detune. We added a hint of 'iSaw' from Techtron and a smattering of half speed 'Tron creating a huge sound which was re-sampled into a composite. This was then thrown at the MLM 'Lite' GUI.
With a few tweaks (replacing Cronk's All-Pass filter with a lowpass filter, for example), it made some nice sounds and so Stringodyne came to being.
It's something of a 'one trick pony' in a way but there are mighty sounds to be had that are wide and expansive, capable of big and lush strings, smooth 'Last Temptation Of Christ' Peter Gabriel style Prophet 5 (through his Boss CE1 chorus) pads and drones, spacey Tomita sweeps and, with everything wide open, big, anthemic techno stabs, hits, pads and leadlines. And all this passes to a comprehensive effects section...
It comprises chorus > echo > convolution reverb with custom spring, plate and hall impulses and there's a stereo enhancer in there as well to create a broad and expansive sound.
Stringodyne also comes with a handful of presets to get you started and tweak.
