SAWPAD
SawPad is our latest MLM Lite and comes, actually, through public demand.
Following the success of SquarePad, many asked for a sawtooth variation - same thing, basically, but with sawtooth waves instead of squares. And so here it is.
Same principle as before - made up of detuned sawtooth waves from our resident Synthesizers.com modular's three VCOs (voltage controlled oscillators). Like SquarePad, one VCO has an LFO applied for a bit of movement. Furthermore, the samples are well over a minute long which not only gives them time to 'breathe' and move but also allowed me to adjust controls in realtime making each sample uniquely animated which all come together beautifully when played polyphonically in Kontakt where they produce a very 'organic' and evolving sound.
These pass through the Suit&Tie Guy 'Sea Devil' VCS3 filter (which is my favourite filter on the mod synth with its quirkiness) and then onto the Fixed Filter Bank before going onto a Boss CE300 analogue rack mount chorus, arguably their most luscious, gorgeous and idiosyncratic chorus ever...
The result is a generator of rich and smooth pads, textures and soundscapes. With a few tweaks to the voice architecture here (including a 2-pole lowpass filter in this case, for example), it's capable of some very rich and wide sounds. Very different sonically to SquarePad and its 'hollow' sound but suitable for almost any genre with its lovely string and smooth pads, etc.. As well as use in its own right, it's an ideal adjunct to bolster up and enhance 'real' string samples to create that big and cinematic filmscore sound. But many more textures are lurking in there especially when the CRUD switch is engaged to add a hint of subtle nastiness.
We used the same MLM Lite GUI, of course...
All this passes to a comprehensive effects section - chorus > echo > convolved reverb with custom impulses...
There's a stereo enhancer in there as well to create a broad and expansive sound as, I hope, can be heard in the droney audio demo that is 100% Sawpad - rich LF drones, thick pads and shimmering textural sweeps.
SawPad also comes with a handful of presets to get you started and tweak.

Another fine addition to my HS arsenal. Thanks
Lionel
Loving these sounds., I wish there were more presets but it's so easy to use, it's not a big problem.
Colin
Love that photo of the modular - very good. Really digging these sounds. They are big and fat.

I bought Squarepad and this is a good companion. They layer very well. You should do a combined product. Even though I have both, I'd buy it. It would be awesome.
Neal
Bloody marvellous as always.

£2.50? How do you keep your staff on at such cheap prices. Not that I am complaining. Great work.
Howard
I bought it just for that opening drone. It's deep and powerful. And those filter sweeps are really cool. Awesome stuff as is usual from you guys and so affordable that they are no brainers.

I can't believe I've not heard of Hollow Sun before. A friend told me to check you guys out. Where to start? I feel like a kid in a sweetshop haha. I bought this [SawPad] as a tester then bought the other MLM lights and other MLMs. I'm playing with those for now but I will definitely be back for more.
Love your blog too - made me laugh. You seem to have a great sense of Egnlish humour and I like it. You live in a beautiful place there. I wish I could get out of the city to a place in the country. Not possible at the moment though.
Keep up the good work. I'm a big fan and will be recommending you guys to everyone I know.
Thanks
